Can you get an infection when sharing an eyelash curler?

Question
Has anyone ever had a Sty? A few weeks ago I went to the Dr. because below
my eye was really sore and swollen. She said it was just a sty and that I
should put bacitracin on it and use warm compresses. Its only an infection
of the eyelash follicle. It went away.
Then I got one below my other eye. Same procedure. Its gone now.
Now I think I’m getting one on the first eye again. Also on the lower lid.
WTF!?!?! I am so sick of this shit! I have no clue what causes this!! I wash
my face regularly. I haven’t worn *any* makeup at all in the past few
months.
I can’t figure out what the hell I’m doing wrong!!! I have never had
anything like this until a few weeks ago. Its so ironic because I used to
wear *really* heavy eye makeup all of the time. I stop wearing makeup for a
few months (college = really busy) and I get this!
Answer
I had an eye infection a few months ago. I had to apply a compress
also, as well as use some antibiotic drops for a couple of days. I had
never had an infection before. I think in my case it was a combination
of things. First, our apartment is very dry, and I think that limits my
ability to flush things out of my eye naturally. I also think the
infection might have been caused when I was handling a placed of used
clothing (before I washed it, it made me itchy). I am guessing that
when my eye got irritated from the allergic reaction I was having, it
was more susceptible to infection. Also, I often rub my eyes – bad,
bad, I know! I try hard not to do it, but it is a habit of mine.
Stress could be a factor too, as someone already mentioned. If you are
staying up late and concentrating a lot, you may not be giving your eyes
adequate rest (also, studies have shown that you blink less when you are
concentrating hard, i.e. you may not be flushing out your eyes often
enough).
So perhaps it was not just one cause – maybe consider if there is
anything else that has changed with respect to your environment or
habits, etc. I do use saline eyedrops when my eyes feel dry, that might
be one possible preventative measure (just make sure you are actually
using hydrating eyedrops vs. Visine, etc., which only serve to constrict
the blood vessels and can actually make things worse). That’s all I can
suggest. HTH!

Question 1
Can you get an infection when sharing an eyelash curler?
i have been using contacts for some while now .. and i started sharing my eyelash curler with my friend but ever since then when i use contacts i get a nasty infection so could it be the eyelash curler or my contacts?
Best Answer – Chosen by Voters
It could be either. You can actually get an infection by sharing an eyelash curler or anything else that touches your eyes and your friends eyes.
You definitely don’t want to continue sharing when either of you have an eye infection because you can give the infection to your friend.
You could try not using an eye lash curler for a day or so and see if that helps, but you should probably see a doctor about the infection to see if it is your contact that are causing the irritation.

Question 4
Can you get an infection from using false eyelashes over and over?
If you the same fake eyelashes over and over again (about 10 times) peeling the glue off before each time), can you get an eye infection?
Best Answer – Chosen by Asker
No, unless you get glue in your eye you should be fine but if you think your eyes are infected I doubt it’s from false eyelashes as long as there good quality and I would just go to your docter if you think your eye is infected.
Question 5
Can fake eyelashes cause an eye infection?
And if so, how? Particularly the kind you can get for like $5 with special glue and do yourself, daily remove.
Best Answer – Chosen by Asker
if you use them as disposables, as in one use and then trash, more than likely not. What you can cause is irritation or allergic reaction.
If you do get an infection while wearing false eyelashes, it is more likely it was from your eye makeup, whether it be expired or contaminated, that can build up along the lash line especially while wearing false eyelashes.
Question 6
How to deal with babies eye infection?
My little 17mth old has an eye infection I think (yellow gunge and crusty eyelashes in the morning) Been to doc he said it should clear up but to go back if it gets worse. I’m cleaning the eyes as best I can with cotton wool buds and sterile warm water – anything else you can recommend? We’ve not had this before.

Sounds like your child has pink eye. Just keep it as clean as you can and if it doesn’t clear up in a day or two I’d be back at the doctor…and make sure it is gunky when you go so he can get a good look.

Question 8
Can mascara cause an eye infection?
I just got new mascara and i didnt share it with anyone its maybelline colosile in the yellow tube. My eye is reallly painful to touch just above my eyelashes. Could the mascara caused an infection?
Best Answer – Chosen by Asker
you might just be allergic to that brand. it might not even be related to your mascara. think of how many germs are on your hands and how often we touch our face/eyes without even realizing.
but never share mascara and make sure to replace mascara every month or so. it gets dry after a while anyway so its always good to replace them regularly

Most bumps on the eyelid are styes. A stye is an inflamed oil gland on the edge of your eyelid, where the lash meets the lid. It appears as a red, swollen bump that looks like a pimple. It is tender, especially to the touch. Dont try to drain the stye….. try putting a hot towel in your eye for ten minutes. A stye is caused by bacteria from the skin that get into the oil glands in the eyelids that provide lubrication to the tear film. Styes are similar to common acne pimples that occur elsewhere on the skin. Hopes this helps.
Question 10
Is this an eye infection or something else?
Someone I know has told me that for the past year they’ve had problems with her eyes. She says every day she gets white stuff that looks almost like lint on the tips of her eyelashes and eyebrows. Now it isn’t actually lint, or dry skin, and it’s not dandruff. Whatever it is makes her eyes sore. She washes her face several times a day. Tried all kinds of masques, cleaners, and anything else you could possibly use. But what could it be?

If she is wearing any make-up, it could be an allergic reaction to the make-up.
Other than that she should go visit her Eye-Doctor or family doctor for a proper diagnosis.
