Cosmetology school for eyelash extensions or applying eyelashes?

Question

before you do this, please find out WHERE their glue comes from. If it’s
from Korea, you don’t want it because of impurities in the glue.
Valli Herman of the LA Times had the extensions done and 2 days later wound
up in the ER with them being removed because her eyes were swollen and she
lost most of her natural lashes along with the removal. NOT a pretty sight
or experience. I personally spoke to Valli about this on the phone back in
January about it.. she was opting against lash extensions and going with
faux lashes that are removable at night

There are a few kinds  that are ok. Here’s a piece of an article written by
a friend of mine,
Marie Bargas from Beautynewsla.com.. Jan issue. (Marie no longer writes for
them)

As of today, the FDA still has no regulations pertaining to eyelash
extension glue, so it’s best to be very careful about choosing an eyelash
extension product, especially if you are prone to allergies. According to
Nova Lash Owner/Founder – Sophy Merszei, a Molecular Biologist and Cosmetic
Chemist, the chief irritant found in many imported eyelash extension glues
is formaldehyde. In fact Nova Lash is the only lash extension
manufacturer/distributor in the United States that does not use formaldehyde
in its glue so far. Nova Lash also carries a glue formula for “sensitive
eyes” which the others do not. Some competitors import their glue from Korea
where formaldehyde is used in cheaper glues for it’s ant-bacterial,
anti-fungal and bonding properties. While, OSHA has already determined that
formaldehyde is genotoxic, showing properties of both a cancer initiator and
promoter, the American Association of Poison Control cautions that toxicity
is based upon the concentration of the toxin at the site of contact, and
possibly another solvent in the formula may be causing the problem either
partially or completely. Until more research is done, consumers need take
into account their own allergies and skin sensitivities before suffering the
painful consequences.

I know 2 people who had it done before. one paid $200 (not including
touch-up) i don’t know how much touch up costs. she developed a reaction to
the glue that she had to have them removed in a week.

the other said it looked quite nice for a week. but after a week, unless she
had them touch-up, some started falling off & she ended up having with
uneven “bald” spots, which looked really bad, actually worse than her own
(short) lashes.

Question 1

Cosmetology school for eyelash extensions or applying eyelashes?

Do you need to have a cosmetology or esthetician license to apply fake eyelashes? What about doing eyelash extensions like Novalash? Can you just learn how to apply eyelash extensions or do you need a license in addition to a Novalash certification?

To yourself? I learned how to do it by myself. It’s really easy, I’ve been wearing them daily for 4 years.

Here’s a great database to use to check since I think it may depend on which MAC item you are planning to get: http://cosmeticsdatabase.com/wordsearch.…

That site is very handy for checking ingredients, potentially harmful side effects, etc.

I hope this helps and have fun at the wedding!
