Why are eyelashes falling out?

Question 1
new to this group but everyone seems to have such good advice
that I was hoping someone could give me some answers. After a long
struggle with symptoms I was diagnosed with Graves. I developed an
allergy to the anti-thyroid medication, Tapazole, so I chose RAI
treatment. Not five months later my endo said I’m now hypothyroid. Now
I’m on levoxyl (.1 a day) and I guess I feel okay but besides still being
stuck at a standstill with my weight, my hair and eyelashes are still
continuing to fall out. After I get out of the shower, there are gobs of
hair in the drain and in my hands. My eyelashes are so sparse I have to
use mascara just to see them. I guess I’m lucky that I have lots of thick
hair.
Has this happened to anyone else? Could there be another problem behind
all this? Or will my hair stop falling out within time? I’ve only been
on the levoxyl for two months now.
Any advice is appreciated -
Answer
Hi! I have another theory on this issue. I have thyroid cancer and must go
from a slightly hyperthyroid state (maintained to suppress my cancer) to a
severely hypothyroid state for periodic I131 body scans. After the scan I
go back to the slightly hyper state. About 6 weeks-2 months after I resume
Synthroid my hair starts to fall out. It lasts a month or so and I lose
about half of it. Then it stops. My Doc tells me that it is neither hypo
or hyperthyroidism that causes my hair loss. Rather it is the rapidly
changing TSH levels. In my case I believe she is right, your situation may
be different. But believe me, it will not all fall out and it grows back
quickly. Thanks, Karen

Question 1
Why are eyelashes falling out?
Finished chemotherapy almost 7 months ago. Then 3 months ago had my ovaries and tubes removed. My eyelashes then fell out. They came back half way – now they’re falling out again. I am currently taking Arimidex and Effexor. Any ideas how to keep my lashes?

It is likely that your eyelashes have been weakened by the chemotherapy and or Arimidex and Effexor. If this is the case then it is likely that while you are taking the drugs you may not be able to keep your eyelashes.
Question 2
Why are my eyelashes falling out and only on one eye?
My lashes have fallen out before but it gets worse each time? Its not just a couple at a time. My other eye has full long lashes but this one has about a 1/4 of that. Why is that?

IF YOU SLEEP W/MASCARA,WEAR FAKE EYE LASHES OR WEAR ALOT OF MASCARA THEN ITSGONNA MAKE YOUREYELASHESFALL OFF .MAYBE YOU ADD MORE MASCARA ON ONE EYE AND THEN PULL YOUR EYELASHES AND RUB THE MASCARA OFF SO THAST MAKES THEM FALL OFF.
ADVICE: DONT WEAR DARK MASCARA SO MUCH OR FAKE EYE LASHES AND IF YOU DO THEN REMOVE MAKEUP BEFORE BED..STICK TO CLEAR MASCARA,EYESHADOW AND EYE LINER.
Question 3
Why are my eyelashes falling out?
I am 25 years old and in good health. I eat right, and exercise moderately. I have noticed my eyelashes falling out dramatically over the last year. My eyelashes were so prevalent before, that I got comments almost everyday and now they hardly exist. What could be causing this? Is it associated with my thinning bangs (hair around top of forehead)? Is there something I can do to reverse this process, especially getting back my eyelashes? Thanks for your help.

have you been using waterproof mascara lately, it thins out lashes and some fall out. you can buy this cream from talika:

it helps them regrow. if thats not the case, ask your doctor. as for the thinning bangs, try some beauty supplements at sephora for hair. this product is especially for thin hair:

Question 6
Why do my eyelashes keep falling out?
my eyelashes have been falling out a lot lately and i dont know why. i think it might be because of my mascara but idk. ive tried using different types of mascara but it still falls out. should i stop wearing mascara? do eyelashes even grow back? and how do you take off mascara the right way? i take off my makeup with q -tips and thats the only way i know how. please help!!!
Best Answer – Chosen by Asker
hmm well i would say to stop taking your mascara off with q-tips! i used to do that and my lashes would fall out sometimes! try using cotton balls instead with makeup remover, which is gentler and the right way. or you can try makeup remover wipes. And yaa eyelashes grow back dont worry! and you might want to ask your doctor if theres something wrong if they continue to fall out. what kind of mascara do you use anyway?? hope i helpedd
Question 7
Why do my eyelashes keep falling out and will they ever grow back?
ive noticed lately that two or three at least a day will fall out. im really concerned. i do wear mascara and wash my makeup off before i go to sleep. as it is i hardly have any eyelashes to begin with. i wasnt blessed with a full lid of lashes that are long and thick.can anybody give me any information on how i can grow them back and is this a long term thing i have to worry about? anything would help thanks.

I don’t know if your situation is a long term thing or not. I use to wear mascara more often, but some of my lashes started falling out. Thus, I wore that kind of makeup less frequently, and it has helped. Maybe you can try taking a temporary break from using mascara.
There’s a possibility that it could have something to do with the way you’re washing off your makeup. Are you being too rough on your lashes? This could cause them to fall out more easily. When you wash off your eye makeup, be gentle and don’t rub. Use a soft cleansing pad or your fingers.
Your lashes should grow back. I’ve heard that lubricating your eyelashes with petroleum jelly or olive oil before you go to bed at night is a good way to promote growth, making your lashes longer and even thicker.

Question 8
Why Are My Eyelashes Falling Out???Could using Latisse stop my eyelashes from falling out?
Best Answer – Chosen by Asker
dunno what latisse is but vaseline helps your eyelashes grow and get thicker. i put some on every night before i go to sleep and my lashes are over 1.5 cm long! but dont put too much on. tyra banks swears by it too
i dont know what the possible cause is but it could be your diet maybe? if nothing works then go and see a doctor
Question 9
Why are all my eyelashes falling out?
Is this a sign of something nasty or am I just being tired and rubbing my eyes. Would that cause it?
I’m starting to get a little disturbed.
Best Answer – Chosen by Asker
the same reason my eyebrows fell out. touching or rubbing them a lot.
Question 10
Why are my eyelashes falling out in clumps? Will they grow back?Any products that will help?
Best Answer – Chosen by Voters
I had this problem for awhile, and it was because I was a bad girl. I wear waterproof mascara and I don’t wash it off nightly…so eventually my eyelashes fell out and I had to use false eyelashes for awhile until they grew back in. Yes they will grow back, however it depends on how fast your hair grows. It could be awhile.
However if you do not wear water proof mascara you need to seek medical advice.
