Why do eyelashes fall out?

Question 1
Why do eyelashes fall out?
I have heard two reasons as to why eyelashes fall out.
1) That they grow and grow until they reach the root or follicle of the eyelash and then they just the eyelash just falls out.
2) That eyelash mites burrow into the root or follicle of the eyelash and when it burrows deep enough, the eyelash falls out.
Is either one of these the reason why eyelashes fall out or is it another reason entirely??

Don’t use waterproof mascara. It dries the lashes out making them brittle…they will break and fall out and plus waterproof mascara is almost impossible to remove. Just use a regular mascara. I like Maybelline LashStylist or CoverGirl LashExact.

Question 10
Why do my eyelashes keep falling out?
First off, I NEVER wear mascara or any other makeup product for that matter. But my eyelashes always seem to half fall off, and dangle from my eyelid. Then they keep poking my eye, and it’s difficult to get it out. Also, I seem to have more eye crusties and eye junk stuff lately. I’m not sure if they also might fall out because now I am always touching my eyelashes out of habit because they keep falling out, but gently. Ugh I’m not sure why and it’s beginning to get on my nerves
Answer
The loss of lashes and increase in dried and moist secretions makes me wonder if you have something called blepharitis. This basically is a malfunction of the special oil glands that sit along the eyelid. These glands secrete an oil that makes up a very important moisturising part of tears.
Have a read of this, and try the suggestions listed there. Instead of holding a heated cloth to the eye, I just let moderately hot water run over my face when in the shower, and I gently massage my eye lids with a finger when doing that.
